I use skype a lot, in the past year I had to change traditional headphones set 8 times, ranging from 4 buck up to 50$, all of them had cheap cords, so little by little it would brake.
I decided to try an USB headset, and for 20$ I picked this LifeChat LX-3000, the cord seems stronger. The audio quality is good and so the mic, but I'm very disappointed the way it handles my other audio input devices on my system, the LifeChat takes over and I can't use them, I could not figure out how to properly map this audio device properly. Talking about Skype, sometimes out of nowhere during a conversation it would tell me that either it cannot hear me, or no headset found, I check the setting but everything is fine, I try to uncheck "Let Skype adjust my audio settings" but had no luck.
And last thing last, in the past few days whenever I move my head the mic goes wild with static/cracking noises. I guess it's time for a new headset. :-\

Hahaha, I got involved in the same problem a long time ago too when I started to use skype. I think one of the problem is coming from the fact that we use USB Headset which doesn't input the sound the same way.
